"Mike Swanson, over on his MSDN blog, just finished writing a Windows Vista gadget which can display the contents of your TiVo's "Now Playing" list."

Mike Swanson, over on his MSDN blog, <a title="Mike Swanson's MSDN Blog: " tivo gadget for vista"" href="http://blogs.msdn.com/mswanson/archive/2007/12/02/tivo-gadget-for-vista.aspx">just finished writing a Windows Vista gadget which can display the contents of your TiVo’s "Now Playing" list. It appears as though, after some experimentation and reading some TiVo developer resources, he discovered a string of information being provided by TiVo’s internal Web server (available on later generation models like TiVo HD & TiVo Series3 HD) which included information like title, description, duration and more.

Essentially, you can have a Vista Gadget running on the computer in your office that displays what all your TiVo has to offer you – thus, saving you the effort of walking into your living room and finding out for yourself.

If you’d like to read a more detailed description on how the gadget works, how it was developed and where to download it then check out Mike’s blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/mswanson/.

If you’ve been fighting the urge (no pun intended) over the past 365 days to pick up Microsoft’s first iPod competitor, the next month may be a little difficult for you.

First up, we’ve got Woot selling refurbished versions of the first version of the Zune (today only – while supplies last) in black, white, or brown at $99:

Next, Buy.com has a brand-spanking-new brown version of Zune 1.0 priced at $99.99 with free shipping:

If you can pass up those offers, you may be able to just as easily dismiss the 2nd version of the Zune player – due to be released in mid-November. Sporting a new look and feel, a flash-based brother, a new and improved Marketplace and more, the Zune brand is bound to make some headway.
