Interesting comments, @fm. The Ribbon I can get past but, you're right, @Elliott was spot on by saying that OL2010 is just "change for the sake of change."

Elliott, You couldn't have said it better. The organization I work for has gone over to the dark side, in other words, Office 2010, and I have yet to see a new "feature" that either works or saves time. The ribbon requires MORE mouse clicks than 2003, it's junky looking (I don't need an icon for every single command, for heaven's sake), learning the new user interface is slowing everyone down. We don't have time to sit and play with a new UI; we have work to do. All in all, the same old thing in a new distracting annoying package. Waste of time. Waste of effort. I keep reading that the ribbon is more efficient (but that opinion seems to originate with Microsoft employees). It isn't. It's not cool looking, it doesn't work better, it's a bleeding mess.

I've got to say, Outlook 2010 is just change for the sake of change. No reason to switch if you're happy with Outlook 2003 (still). If you're not happy with that, you'll hate all this junk.

A half year later I have to say I like Outlook 2010...only negtive point is still the search function. For this I still use a third part tool Lookeen! (http://www.lookeen.net) Something like that is what Outlook needs, then it would be almost perfect! :)

Conversation view is just bad in RTM Escrow. All messages with blank subject get sorted in the same conversations. Completely unrelated messages grouped together. Seems like Outlook 2007 hack that tried to sort messages as conversation with the same subject line.

Microsoft said they use GUID which is as I understand going to work with Exchange 2010 and not 2007 or 2003. Heheh... thousands of dollars to upgrade? I dont think so... cheaper to switch to Zimbra or Gmail. A lot of businesses I know already did so. Oh way... there is Lotus Notes as well.

I had to see what Outlook 2010 offered after 3 years of (nothing).

Organizing by conversation is good (as MS always does, let someone else prove the usefulness of the feature then they copy it and tout it as a revolutionary new feature they've added to their line).

Ability to add a note from onenote is good.

Other than the above, a pretty unimpressive preview.

I find the lost of tool-bars to be the biggest set back. I had a lot of custom settings and the ribbon just doesn't work in that area. The ribbon is fine when your composing an email and Outlook 2007 balanced it well.

The only thing I really like is the conversation mode. I hope they can get it to work as well as Gmail did.

The problem, Thomas, is that Microsoft technical previews don't typically vary that much from the final product. If that's the case, and this is my point, Microsoft will launch Outlook 2010 and *already* be severely behind in the market of communications apps. Heck, even Postbox has made tremendous progress even over the last 5 months... more progress than Microsoft has shown in the last 3 years.

I am completely underwhelmed. Every once in awhile I slip over and read about the MSDos world. I've never had to use a machine hindered by such a disk operating system. I very relieved that there is still no reason to do so. I simply don't understand how Gates hypnotized so many CEOs to buy it. The Amiga back in its day was far ahead of MS and Apple existed in another dimension. What happened? Oh well, what to do?
