Best Portable Apps for the Month of April

1 Comment 24 April 2009

Update Notifier
There are a number of apps out there that will scan your PC and then tell you which installed programs are in need of an update; Update Notifier is one such app. Sure, we covered File Hippo’s Update Checker before but this one ups the ante by not only covering software other than just what’s available for d/l on filehippo.com but also by offering the capability to act as a standalone application. From CleanSofts.org [via DotNetWizard.net]

NetWorx
Isolate bandwidth hogs, “track down suspicious network activity” or even just calculate your network speed using this standalone bandwidth monitoring tool. From SoftPerfect.com [via PenDriveApps]

JavaRa
In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I loathe Java. All the Java apps I deal with are horrendously bloated and, well, for lack of a better word, “crashy.” Forget the apps, the Java software itself is just as bad, in my opinion. That said, JavaRa aims to make the Java experience a slightly better one. This little gem will seek out and destroy old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment… to make for a less-bloated JRE experience. From RaProducts.com [via PortableFreeware.com]

Plus, remember to read our article on how to sync these portable/standalone apps on all of your PCs using Syncplicity.
