Office Forms Server 2007 Now Available on TechNet and MSDN

November 28th, 2006 · No Comments

Microsoft has just posted the download for Forms Server 2007 on the MSDN & TechNet sites.  In case you’re like me and have absolutely no idea what exactly this is, here’s Microsoft’s take on what the product is supposed to do:

“Microsoft Office Forms Server 2007 provides scalable, standards-based electronic forms solutions with enhanced security that can help your organization to extend the reach of forms-driven business processes to anyone with a Web browser.

Office Forms Server 2007 is a new server offering in the Microsoft Office system. It is a standalone server that delivers new Microsoft Office InfoPath Forms Services, which is also available in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. This new technology uses server-based electronic forms to streamline business processes and make data collection, distribution, and integration more cost-effective than with paper-based forms.”

Still confused?  Hey, me too!  All I got from this description is that it’s a standalone server product to work with InfoPath and that it makes delicious waffles.  I’m sorry…did I say “waffles?”  I meant “waffles.”

I’m hungry.

Anyway, WinSmarts.com has an interesting article on how this particular product, along with InfoPath & MOSS, will work together.

Adobe Releases New Labs Project: Kuler

November 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

Adobe Labs has released a new project on their “Labs” testing site.  Going by the name “Kuler,” the project “helps you explore, create and share color themes for your Web pages, design projects and other creative work.”

Based on Flash (requiring Flash Player 9,) the online application provides a way for designers to collaborate on various color themes.  You can view other users’ themes and download them (or your own) for use in the Creative Suite 2 applications.

Feedback is being taken via a forum which already has 55 users logged as I’m writing this.

There seems to be a new energy slowly creeping it’s way through the halls of Adobe since the Macromedia acquisition.  The company seems to be more open to beta testing new products and it appears as though they’ve become more receptive to using non-proprietary technology in some of their more recent online ventures.  It’s refreshing to say the least.
